About Dehradun
Dehradun once a peaceful, green and small town, famous for its Lychee, Basmati Rice, pleasant weather throughout the year and world-class education of school like Doon & Welham School with a very little population is now a high tech crowded city with all the big malls, showrooms of top brand, shopping galleries, movie halls situated at every corner of the city. Weather at Dehradun is very similar to the weather in silicon valley.
Dehradun is located at an altitude of 650mts (2210 ft) above sea level. It is located on the foothills of Shivalik Range. Dehradun is also surrounded by the Lesser Himalayas. 33C+ is rarety, however, 30-35C is becoming common trend for 15th April till 15th June.
It is the capital of newly formed state Uttarakhand (earlier Uttaranchal) and is also the home of many government institutions. The center of the city's activities is around the Clock Tower (Ghanta-ghar), a structure with 5 functioning clocks.
The city has witnessed significant growth in the last 20 years. Dehradun has a per capita income close to Rs.90,000 (national average Rs.36,000). Dehradun is in a middle of a commercial & IT boom, which is amplified by the establishment of Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) and various SEZ (special economic zones) through out the city. Dehradun is also the Headquarter of ONGC, India's Largest Oil Company. Many MNC's have also grown after 2004 in the city. Inside Softwares Pvt. Ltd. too has its registered office at Dehradun.
